The Eastern Dual Diagnosis Service also works in a partnership with the Dual Diagnosis Consumer and Carer Advisory Council and other partner agencies. This is called the ‘In-Tandem’ Model.

The Council is made up of ten consumers and carers with a lived experience of dual diagnosis, who provide a valued voice about service improvements, broader system design, are involved in staff recruitment, and in the development and delivery of training and educational activities.

Their lived experience contribution is crucial to the way dual diagnosis treatment and support is offered at Eastern Health, across the eastern metropolitan region and contributes to the broader Statewide dual diagnosis direction.

Council members with a lived experience of dual diagnosis also lead weekly group-based discussions for consumers in both mental health admission and community-based clinics and at the inpatient medical detoxification ward at Box Hill Hospital.
