Dietitians apply the science of human nutrition to food and health. They provide education and practical support to enable people to make dietary choices that will maximise their health and wellbeing. Eastern Health Dietitians provide inpatient and outpatient services in the hospital, community health, rehabilitation centre or home. They work as part of the health care team to ensure high quality client-centred care.

Dietitians are available at most Eastern Health sites during business hours Monday to Friday with a limited weekend service at Box Hill and Maroondah Hospitals. Outpatient services and Community Health services are available at set times during business hours. Eastern Health Dietitians auspice the Eastern Health Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) Program for those patients/clients requiring tube feeding in the home (e.g. receive nutrition via a nasogastric or PEG tube). Contact details are listed below.

Frequently asked questions

Positions for dietitians at Eastern Health will be advertised on the Eastern Health recruitment page and the DAA website.

As an inpatient at Eastern Health you will not be charged for the care provided by the dietitian and/or any nutrition-support product or foods that they may recommend for consumption during your inpatient stay. (Overseas visitors will be charged a facility fee for inpatient care). The dietitians will also be able to provide you with information about obtaining nutrition-support products for your use following discharge from care. Obtaining nutrition support products following discharge may incur a small fee.

There is a small fee for accessing dietitians in our ambulatory services in the Sub Acute Care program (Angliss, Peter James Centre, Wantirna, Yarra Ranges Health).
