The Brief Intervention Team (BIT) consists of several streams: primary consultations; Brief Recovery Care and the suicide prevention stream Hospital Outreach Post-Suicidal Engagement (HOPE).  They see people who might be experiencing mental ill health, psychological distress, thoughts of suicide or have survived a suicide attempt.

BIT is a multidisciplinary team led by a Nurse Practitioner (NP), in partnership with a Consultant Psychiatrist. Our team (clinical, support practitioners and lived experience) work within a recovery orientated framework in partnership with people, their identified support people (carers) and other service providers.

The length of an episode of care with BIT is based on an individual’s main hopes and their desired outcome, for a period of up to 3 months.  The team offers a biopsychosocial approach with a focus on Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

BIT aims to support a person’s journey from referral through to support beyond the episode with BIT.  People are supported by BIT to make and participate in decisions about their individual recovery whilst respecting their autonomy and promoting empowerment.
