We have three adult mental health inpatient units (also called IPUs) located at our Box Hill Hospital and Maroondah Hospital sites – IPU1, IPU2 and Upton House.  Each unit provides care and support to adults requiring an inpatient admission, with dedicated spaces to ensure people feel safe and supported during their time with our service. We have female only areas within all of our units, and a male only lounge at Maroondah IPU 1 and Upton House.

We understand that everyone’s experience of mental ill health and recovery is different, and we aim to work alongside consumers, and their family members and carers to work together to develop individual treatment and recovery plans. Our treatment is inclusive and non-discriminatory.

We offer multi-disciplinary treatment and support including access to psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, and consumer and carer peer support workers.  Our team will work with you to provide the best available treatment for your mental and physical health, to assist you in your recovery, ensuring you feel safe and involved in your care.

We encourage participation from you and your carer(s)/family in all aspects of your recovery and care. This includes assessment, treatment and recovery planning beyond your time in hospital.

Liaison will occur between your treating GP in the community, family members and our hospital staff.

Our inpatient units are smoke free environments. Cigarettes, alcohol and illicit substances are not permitted anywhere on the ward; they are a health risk and they can delay your recovery. You will be supported with nicotine replacement and access to Drug & Alcohol services to support you if you are suffering from withdrawal.
